The Joys of renting
Why is that a landlord feels free to collect the rent that must be paid on-time, but does not need to be deposited in a timely matter. Why is it that they feel that if there are bugs on the property it is your fault and not theirs. How is it that from nearly 50 miles away the landlord seems to know how we clean and how we abuse the appliances. Is the house bugged with cameras? Who knows, but needless to say, while their are advantages to renting I am failing to see them at this particular moment.

Getting ready for the big day
So I have just over a week before my surgery and I can honestly say that it won't come soon enough. You never realize how much medications work until you run out. And if you don't get it refilled in time: DETOX. It truly sucks. I'm excited to get this over with and get back into shape. Melanie's been great through all this. I know it hurts her yet she remains incredibly strong through all this. I owe her the world, but for now I can just give her what I can.

Hanging with my kids
So a week and a half ago Melanie and I spent 11 glorious days with my son Shawn, who was an absolute peach. He was great. We had a great time and we all got to spend some one on one time together. It's been a long time coming and some great bonding time was achieved. This week Melanie and I are getting to spend 11 days with my daughter Sarah. She too is being a doll. This morning she and Melanie did yoga and then we are all going to hang out and run errands for the rest of the day. I can't tell you how much this means to me that I am able to spend this kind of quality time with my kids. I love them dearly and only hope that I am the Dad they want me to be.

Will my body every recover?
I just found out on Thursday that my left shoulder needs to have surgery on it. We knew it needed it, but just not this soon. Hopefully this one will go smoother than the right shoulder did and I can get back to my 'normal' life again. Melanie's been so great through all of this, but I know it's taking it's toll on her. I can never thank her enough or repay her for all that she's done. She truly cares and that's awesome, but at the same time it hurts me to see her hurt so much. All I can do is take care of myself better and not let this kind of thing happen again, which I have promised to do. Which mean no more football, basketball, baseball or softball. I should just stick to weightlifting and golf. Those were always my safe sports.

Realizing how spoiled I am
Melanie's in Nashville for the weekend and once again I realize how spoiled I really am. I try not to take it for granted, but I know that I do a little. It is rare when one finds that certain someone who loves you for who you are and not who they want you to be. One who feels pain when you feel pain and only wants it to go away. Needless to say I have found that certain someone. On top of all this she's a gourmet cook who always makes sure I have meals to eat whether she's here or in Nashville. I definitely won the lottery with her.

And the hit just keep on coming
So how bad does it get when you hurt yourself sleeping??!!! The other morning Mike rolls over and feels a pop and then some seering pain in his left shoulder. Keep in mind he's still recovering from surgery on his right shoulder. Anyhow, he shrugs it off and continues with his day. So he brings it up to his PT guy, Elmer, who runs a battery of tests, and if things are bad enough, he thinks Mike might have torn his rotator cuff. Murphy's Law at work here. Mike just saw Dr. Jobe last Thursday and determined that the left shoulder could wait to be repaired, but no it's looking like probably not. Things have got to get better. He's doing everything that he can, but it appears that he's paying now for all the fun times he had as a kid and younger adult. Let this be a lesson to you little ones out there.

Talk about painful
Today Mike and an EMG test done to check on his nerve systems. This involved an hour of being "tasered" and poked with a needle. Not a very fun test to say the least. We're hoping that this will explain the electrical shocks he's been experiencing since his surgery in February. Melanie started her first day as daytime Dean of Students and came open pretty happy with her day.
