The Joys of renting

Why is that a landlord feels free to collect the rent that must be paid on-time, but does not need to be deposited in a timely matter. Why is it that they feel that if there are bugs on the property it is your fault and not theirs. How is it that from nearly 50 miles away the landlord seems to know how we clean and how we abuse the appliances. Is the house bugged with cameras? Who knows, but needless to say, while their are advantages to renting I am failing to see them at this particular moment.
